The wonderful medium of Art glass uses a process called glass fusing, warm glass or kiln formed glass. Fusible art glass comes in many forms. The most common one is sheets. Other forms are long thin threads of glass called stringers and flat stringers called noodles. Crushed Art glass (called frit )also comes in a variety of forms --from very coarse pieces to finely crushed powder. Art glass comes in thick solid blocks to shards that are paper thin. I use all these art glass forms in creating unique jewelry pieces.

Art glass sheets are cut and designed to form the jewelry. Once the art glass is arranged it is placed in a glass kiln and heated to the desired effect. I fire most pieces up to 1480 degrees F which merges two layers of art glass together. To get different shapes, effects or just to stick glass together I fire the glass from 1200-1550 degrees F. Some pieces of jewelry are fired first at a higher temperature and then once cooled other art glass is added and fired again at a lower temperature. One process I use is taking ground up glass  and pouring it into a mold. I make my own jewelry molds out of clay which I fire in a clay kiln. It takes a few hours to fire the jewelry in the kiln and at least 8 hours for the kiln to cool down in order to remove the pieces. Jewelry findings are added to finish the pieces.
